Yes, they may be crazy!

If you came to Overland in 2018, or were a reader of Overland Magazine, you should remember the phenomenal photography of Bea and Helmut from ‘TimeToRide’.

The German couple are always hard to pin down as they don’t seem to stop travelling, but if their current overland trip works according to plan they’ll have a really remarkable story to tell at next year’s Overland Event.

Having set off in July they are going to be spending a year riding some of the toughest off-road tracks in Australia on their 50 year old 50cc mopeds. Yes, you read that correctly, 50cc mopeds. But don’t worry, they completed a 5,000 kms shakedown test ride earlier this year riding through Poland, Lithuania and Sweden to find out how the ‘little ones’ perform with all the luggage both on and offroad.

In fact you can follow the story of the restoration of these Kreidler Florett mopeds, one built in 1969 and  the other1975, by clicking here though you may need to translate from the original German.

So who exactly are these lovely people from the beautiful Bavarian town of Burghausen? Well they sold everything they had to be able to set off on a global ride in 2011, but back then they didn’t realise they’d be on the road for five years and ride through five continents, a trip which not surprisingly had a massive impact on their lives.

They realized how much life had in store for them if they went through the world with their eyes and ears open, were brave, and dared to explore what was around the next corner. Having returned from that big trip, submitted some articles  to Overland Magazine and then come to the UK with their Honda Transalps for the Overland Event, they simply spent every available moment on those trusty 650 Hondas riding wherever they could to find warm encounters, unique landscapes, exciting cultures and produce new travel stories. We’re delighted as their words and images are exquisite.

You can follow their latest adventure in English through instagram and Youtube

So if all goes well on this latest Australian adventure, you'll get to meet them at The Overland Event 2025!
