An editor at The Times once described Derek Mansfield as, “sometimes outrageous, but always amusing,” and we couldn’t agree more.
The author of ‘Notes from the Road’ (volumes III and IV) has lead a colourful life by any standards. He’s sailed around the world with the Royal Navy, served aboard nuclear submarines and worked in advertising and web development. Each summer, with little or no planning he pulls on a pair of jeans, an Overland t-shirt, an old leather jacket and sets off on his Moto Guzzi V7 to ride 15,000 kilometres or so across Europe and Central Asia. He navigates with a recalcitrant (and discontinued) satnav, a compass and a pair of dice. In recent years he has motorcycled more than 65,000 miles across almost every country in Europe as well as Russia, Siberia and Central Asia but just keeps returning for more.
Derek will be sharing his stories at this year’s Overland Event and signing copies of his books in the Moto Freight Authors’ Tent.
